Xcel Energy to sell Michigan gas and electric operations to SEMCO, UPPCO

XEL•Xcel Energy agreed to sell its Michigan natural gas operations to SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company and its electric operations to Upper Peninsula Power Company. The sale covers nearly 6,000 gas customers and about 9,000 electric customers, is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in 2027.
Xcel Energy said it agreed to sell its Michigan natural gas operations to SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company and its electric operations to Upper Peninsula Power Company. The customers are in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the transaction requires regulatory approvals.
SEMCO will serve nearly 6,000 natural gas customers, while UPPCO will serve about 9,000 electric customers. The companies said there would be no immediate changes to billing, rates or customer service processes, and they expect the transaction to close in 2027.
