XPeng Launches Employee Robotaxi Trials Eight Months After AI Day
XPEV•XPeng began employee testing of its Robotaxi platform on July 10, marking eight months since its unveiling at AI Day 2025 and featuring CEO He Xiaopeng’s first autonomous ride. The L4-capable Robotaxi, powered by a Turing AI chip and VLA2.0 model, will enter trial operations in Guangzhou during 2026.
1. Employee Testing Launch
On July 10, XPeng initiated internal testing of its Robotaxi platform, with Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng completing the first full autonomous journey. This pilot follows the Robotaxi unveiling at AI Day 2025, reflecting rapid development from concept to service trial in eight months.
2. Physical AI Technology
The Robotaxi integrates XPeng’s self-developed Turing AI chip and VLA2.0 model to achieve L4 autonomy without relying on lidar-heavy architectures or high-definition maps. The platform unifies ride-hailing, dispatch, passenger transport and journey completion in a full-stack Physical AI application.
3. Commercial Strategy and Next Steps
XPeng plans to conduct trial operations and demonstration services in Guangzhou during 2026, using local experience to scale globally. The company will partner with regional fleets and operators, supplying software, hardware and AI capabilities for autonomous mobility across Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
