Yemen's Houthis say they hit Saudi Ras Tanura oil refinery with missile
USO•Yemen's Houthis said they hit Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery with a ballistic missile, causing a fire; Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm the strike. The refinery has capacity of 550,000 barrels per day.
1. Reported refinery strike
The Houthis said a ballistic missile strike hit Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura oil refinery on Tuesday and caused a fire at the complex, which also includes a shipping terminal. Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm the strike.
2. Oil infrastructure targeted
Ras Tanura has capacity of 550,000 barrels per day and was shut for a period in the early months of the Iran war as a precaution. A person familiar with the matter said Saudi Arabia had contained a fire near the terminal in the early hours. The Houthis have attacked Ras Tanura and Yanbu, the two main ports through which nearly all Saudi oil exports flow.
3. Wider attacks
The Houthis have escalated attacks on Saudi Arabia since September, regularly firing missiles and drones at airports, ports and oil installations in recent weeks. Saudi authorities briefly issued an air raid alert in Riyadh on Tuesday, and the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched toward the capital.
