York Space Systems Ships More Than 20 Satellites for Summer Launch, Acquires Solestial
YSS•York Space Systems shipped its second production lot of more than 20 tactical communication satellites for summer launch on a dedicated Falcon 9 mission. Once both lots are delivered, it will have fielded over 40 spacecraft in its proliferated mission and has acquired Solestial to onshore U.S. solar cell production.
1. Second Production Lot Completed
York Space Systems announced the shipment of its second production lot, comprising more than 20 tactical communication satellites, to the launch site. This delivery represents its second operational batch under the Tranche 1 contract and demonstrates the repeatability and maturity of its production model.
2. Falcon 9 Summer Launch Plans
The full payload of over 20 York-built satellites is slated for a dedicated Falcon 9 mission this summer, aiming to provide assured tactical communications for U.S. and allied warfighters. Once both production lots arrive on orbit, York will have deployed over 40 spacecraft in its proliferated warfighter space architecture.
3. Cost Efficiency and Competitive Edge
York’s production model delivers national security spacecraft at roughly half the cost of competitors, a key advantage in proliferated satellite architectures. This cost efficiency stems from standardized designs, streamlined manufacturing processes and scalable production techniques.
4. Solestial Acquisition Strengthens Supply Chain
Earlier this week York completed its acquisition of Solestial to integrate U.S.-based solar cell manufacturing into its supply chain. The move establishes a fully domestic solar cell production ecosystem, reducing reliance on external vendors and enhancing production resilience.
