Aeluma Positioned for Quantum Scale-Up via $2 Billion CHIPS Act Incentives and New Government Contracts
ALMU•U.S. Department of Commerce announced over $2 billion in CHIPS Act incentives for quantum computing, including a letter of intent with one of Aeluma’s partner foundries. Aeluma plans to leverage its large-diameter wafer platform and recent government contracts for quantum materials and lasers to scale production.
1. CHIPS Act Funding Overview
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced over $2 billion in proposed CHIPS Act incentives to accelerate domestic quantum computing infrastructure, marking a shift from exploratory research to commercial manufacturing. Nine companies, including two semiconductor foundries, executed letters of intent, reflecting federal commitment to scalable quantum technology development.
2. Aeluma’s Role and Platform
Aeluma supported one of the companies selected for a letter of intent and is positioned to provide its scalable heterogeneous integration platform through a potential subcontract. The company’s large-diameter wafer approach combines compound semiconductors with CMOS-compatible manufacturing to address key engineering challenges in quantum microsystems.
3. Government Contracts and Partnerships
Aeluma recently secured new U.S. government contracts for quantum materials and lasers and established wafer production partnerships with Tower Semiconductor and Sumitomo Chemical Advanced Technologies. Core offerings include aluminum gallium arsenide nonlinear materials, quantum dot lasers, and high-sensitivity photodetectors, all produced on large-diameter substrates for volume integration.
