1. Reviewing US expansion
Aeromexico is reviewing opportunities to add US capacity after the US Department of Transportation lifted restrictions on new flights from Mexico City’s Benito Juarez and Felipe Angeles airports. Finance chief Ricardo Sanchez said the airline had aircraft available to support growth and was not yet fully utilizing some of those assets.
2. Aircraft and competition
Sanchez said leases negotiated during Aeromexico’s Chapter 11 restructuring left the airline with rates below current market levels. The carrier is also prioritizing profitability and lower leverage. Mexico’s antitrust authority is expected to approve a planned merger between low-cost carriers Volaris and Viva Aerobus before the end of 2026, which could increase competition for Aeromexico.
