Army awards AeroVironment counter-UAS laser contract
AeroVironment won a $464.8 million U.S. Army contract for the Enduring-High Energy Laser counter-UAS program.
The deal uses an Other Transaction Agreement structure and covers delivery of dozens of LOCUST X3 laser weapon systems over the next few years.
LOCUST X3 is a 30-kilowatt system; planned integration includes the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, with palletized options.
Program marks directed-energy production procurement
The award is billed as the first U.S. production procurement for directed-energy systems, shifting laser weapons from prototypes to fielded capability.
The program builds on Army Multi-Purpose High Energy Laser prototypes already in use and includes system support, training, and production ramp backed by a $30 million facility investment.
