1. AI stocks climb
AI-linked stocks rose on Monday after Anthropic revealed paperwork for its initial public offering, against growing investor unease over debt-fueled spending on AI infrastructure. Nvidia added nearly 3%, while Microsoft and Amazon gained nearly 1% each.
2. IPO implications
A successful flotation by an AI-focused company such as Anthropic could reshape how markets value parts of the industry, including chipmakers and infrastructure companies, analysts have said. It could also divert capital from some large technology companies as investors make room for another way to invest in AI. Some major technology companies are investors in both Anthropic and its rival OpenAI.
3. Other AI shares rise
CoreWeave and Nebius Group rose 5.7% and 2.3%, respectively, reversing earlier losses. Applied Digital gained 1% and IREN rose 3%; Micron added 3%, while Sandisk, Western Digital and Seagate each gained about 2.5%. AMD and Broadcom rose 2.5% and 3%, respectively, and Zoom Communications, an early Anthropic investor, gained 1.5%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index was up more than 3%. Focus now shifts to a potential OpenAI IPO, while the long-term impact of AI IPOs on the trade remains uncertain.
