AA•Alcoa starts construction of gallium plant in Western Australia
Alcoa Corporation AA.N has started construction of a new gallium production plant in Western Australia, partnering with governments and industry partners from Australia, Japan and the United States, it said on Monday.
- The project is located at Alcoa's Wagerup alumina refinery, in Western Australia.
- Gallium is mainly recovered as a byproduct of alumina production from bauxite, rather than mined directly.
- The company said the plant is expected to create up to 200 construction jobs and about 20 permanent roles once operational.
