Alcoa breaks ground on gallium production plant at Wagerup refinery in Western Australia

The project targets a new non-Chinese supply source for the critical mineral used in semiconductors and defense supply chains.
Construction is expected to create up to 200 local jobs, and the plant is expected to add about 20 permanent roles once operational.

Alcoa broke ground on a gallium production plant at its Wagerup alumina refinery in Western Australia.
The facility will be built and operated by Alcoa, backed by government and industry partners from Australia, Japan and the US.
