Algoma Steel says Lake Superior Power turbine outage constrains EAF output, hits shipments

A turbine outage at Lake Superior Power temporarily reduced electric arc furnace output and weighed on expected shipments of about 145,000 tons for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be negative C$10 million to negative C$20 million, including a C$50 million to C$55 million capacity-utilization adjustment. Algoma said it restored full power after installing a replacement turbine. All electrical equipment on EAF Unit Two has been tested, with first heat expected in coming days and shipments targeted for the fourth quarter.
