Alibaba Launches XuanTie C950 RISC-V CPU in Mass Production to Challenge Nvidia

Alibaba’s Damo Academy unveiled the XuanTie C950 RISC-V CPU optimized for cloud AI inference and already in mass production under its T-Head chip unit. The company is preparing a separate T-Head listing and targets competition with Nvidia and Huawei in China’s booming AI accelerator sector.

1. Chip Reveal and Specifications

Alibaba’s research arm Damo Academy introduced the XuanTie C950, a central processor based on the open-source RISC-V architecture optimized for cloud-based AI inference. The CPU design allows customers to customize inferencing workloads and has already entered mass production through Alibaba’s T-Head semiconductor unit.

2. Market Position and Listing Plans

T-Head aims to expand its AI accelerator footprint in China and directly compete with Nvidia and Huawei in the domestic market. Alibaba is preparing a separate initial public offering for T-Head to fund further development and capitalize on surging AI hardware demand.
