Alphabet Debuts Gemini-Powered Ask Maps and Immersive Navigation with 300M-Place AI Data

Alphabet is launching Ask Maps, a conversational Google Maps feature with Gemini AI analyzing data from 300 million places for personalized location recommendations. It also unveiled Immersive Navigation with 3D road views, alternate routing and parking guidance on iOS and Android in the US and India.

1. Ask Maps Introduced

Alphabet is integrating its Gemini AI into Google Maps with the new Ask Maps feature, enabling users to interact conversationally by typing or speaking queries to find places based on preferences and criteria.

2. Data and Personalization

The system analyzes reviews and attributes from over 300 million mapped locations and leverages insights from 500 million community contributors to deliver tailored recommendations aligned with prior searches and saved user history.

3. Immersive Navigation Feature

Alphabet also rolled out Immersive Navigation, a 3D map view that highlights alternate routes, parking spots and building entrances to help drivers navigate congestion and unfamiliar areas more intuitively.

4. Launch Schedule and Expansion

Ask Maps goes live this week on iOS and Android in the US and India, while Immersive Navigation will initially support CarPlay, Android Auto and Google-built devices in the US, with broader regional rollouts planned.
