Alphabet Raises YouTube Premium Prices Up to $2 and Secures TPU AI Deal
Alphabet will raise U.S. YouTube Premium individual plan from $13.99 to $15.99, family plan from $22.99 to $26.99 and Premium Lite to $8.99 immediately for new members and starting June billing for current subscribers. The company also secured a deal to sell its Tensor Processing Units to corporate customers, while Meta’s new AI-driven ad products threaten Google’s lead in digital advertising.
1. YouTube Premium Price Increase
Alphabet is lifting prices for its YouTube Premium services for the first time since 2023. The individual plan jumps from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, the family plan for up to six users rises from $22.99 to $26.99, and the stripped-down Premium Lite tier will cost $8.99. New subscribers face the higher rates immediately, while existing members will see changes on their June billing cycle.
2. AI Infrastructure Partnership with Anthropic
Alphabet struck a strategic deal to sell its in-house Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to enterprise customers through an agreement with AI firm Anthropic. This partnership positions the company as a leading AI infrastructure provider and diversifies revenue beyond advertising.
3. Competitor Ad Market Pressure
Meta is projected to overtake Alphabet as the largest digital-ad platform worldwide by leveraging new advertising products and generative AI tools. This intensifies competition in Alphabet’s core ad business and could pressure future revenue growth.
