Google signs Fortum PPA to extend Loviisa operations
Alphabet’s Google has signed a power purchase agreement with Fortum to extend operations at the Loviisa nuclear plant through 2050, supporting the plant’s life extension and potential capacity upgrades.
Alphabet outlined an ESG plan to expand data center infrastructure in Finland while adding carbon-free power to limit grid impact.
Additional clean power and storage projects in Finland
Alphabet also backed two onshore wind projects, lifting contracted new-to-grid wind capacity in Finland to 629 MW.
The company also planned a 94 MW battery near Kajaani, targeted for late 2027, to help balance the grid and curb price volatility.
