1. Major CAD 2.3 Billion Contract Secured with Toronto Transit Commission
Alstom has finalized a 2.3 billion CAD (approximately 1.4 billion euros) agreement with the Toronto Transit Commission to supply 70 six-car New Subway Trains (NSTs) for Line 2 replacement and upcoming extensions to Yonge North and Scarborough, with options for up to 150 additional trainsets. The six-car Metropolis trains will be designed and engineered in Canada, with final assembly in Thunder Bay and testing in Kingston, creating up to 945 direct jobs—over 600 at Alstom—and an estimated 1,700 indirect positions nationwide. Featuring open gangways, multi-purpose areas for wheelchairs, strollers and bikes, energy-efficient lighting, active levelling systems, wireless charging and advanced cybersecurity, these trains incorporate eco-design elements such as smart climate controls and virtual reality-aided engineering to optimize lifecycle sustainability.
2. €500 Million Coradia Max Expansion for Baden-Württemberg
Alstom has signed a €500 million contract with the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg to deliver 26 additional Coradia Max double-deck regional trains and provide full service maintenance through 2055. Scheduled to enter service from December 2026 on Regionalexpress and Metropolexpress routes around Stuttgart, these four-car EMUs feature a 200 km/h top speed, 380 seats, barrier-free access with step-free thresholds and wheelchair lifts, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, mobile-device charging, lounge, conference and family compartments, and multi-purpose spaces for bicycles and luggage. Built to integrate with the Digital Hub Stuttgart signalling environment, the trains will be phased in on rail network 35’s Lot 1 and 2, reinforcing Alstom’s role as a long-term maintenance partner under its FlexCare Perform service model.
