Amazon Announces Multibillion-Dollar AWS Data Center Campus, Creates 400 Jobs in Missouri
AMZN•Amazon will invest multibillion dollars to build an AWS data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri, creating over 400 full-time roles and thousands of construction jobs. The project includes a $3m public safety overhaul, full energy cost coverage via Ameren Missouri, and backs a 138MW carbon-free power project.
1. Project Overview
Amazon will invest multibillion dollars to build a state-of-the-art AWS data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri. The expansion will generate over 400 full-time data center positions and thousands of local construction jobs while expanding cloud service capacity for remote work, streaming and enterprise applications.
2. Energy Infrastructure
To meet its power requirements, Amazon negotiated a direct agreement with Ameren Missouri to fully absorb energy costs and protect local ratepayers. The company also backs a 138MW carbon-free energy project capable of powering more than 28,000 homes, reinforcing regional grid capacity and stabilizing long-term power pricing.
3. Community Investments
The project includes a $3 million allocation for emergency dispatch and public safety upgrades, structural roadway overhauls and a new bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. Amazon will donate completed water supply infrastructure to the local district at no cost, enabling expanded public access and municipal utility management.
