1. Sam’s Club Rolls Out Express Delivery
Sam’s Club began offering an ultra-fast one-hour delivery option on April 2, expanding beyond its three-hour service. The program, now live in all 600-plus clubs, has completed nearly 65,000 deliveries in an average of 55 minutes, with the 10 fastest orders delivered in under 12 minutes. Members pay $10 for Plus and $22 for Club memberships, and orders primarily include essentials like bottled water, produce, rotisserie chicken and paper goods. Sam’s Club leverages real-time inventory visibility and the Spark driver app to optimize fulfilment and maintain speed.
2. Amazon Announces 30,000-Job Reduction
Amazon plans to cut approximately 30,000 positions across Amazon Web Services, retail, Prime Video and human resources, marking one of the largest workforce reductions in its history. The move aims to offset rising costs and streamline operations as the company ramps up investments in artificial intelligence, including development of AI-powered tools for logistics, customer service and cloud services. This follows similar measures by peers investing heavily in AI while trimming headcount to boost productivity and lower expenses.
