Amazon Signs Nine PPAs to Expand Australia Renewable Energy Capacity to 1GW
Amazon Australia has signed nine new PPAs adding 430MW of capacity, bringing its total clean energy portfolio to nearly 1GW nationwide. These projects, spanning wind farms, utility-scale solar and battery hybrids, represent Amazon's largest single-year renewable energy investment in Australia and aim to power 500,000 households annually.
1. PPA Agreements and Capacity
Amazon Australia has executed nine new power purchase agreements adding 430MW to its existing renewable energy portfolio, bringing total capacity to nearly 1GW once fully operational.
2. Regional Project Breakdown
Projects include the Muswellbrook Solar Farm with battery storage in NSW, Forest Glen and Stanbridge solar-battery farms in NSW, and the Golden Plains 2 wind farm plus four solar-battery installations across Victoria.
3. Investment Scale and Carbon Pledge
These initiatives mark Amazon's largest single-year renewable investment in Australia, following A$2.8 billion invested since 2020, and support its net-zero carbon emissions target by 2040 under the Climate Pledge.
4. Grid Impact and Community Benefits
The capacity will supply enough clean energy to power over 500,000 Australian households annually, enhance grid reliability in NSW and Victoria and promote environmental restoration by repurposing former coal sites.
