Amazon Extends 30-Minute Delivery to 11 Cities with $3.99 Prime Fee

DASHDASH

Amazon launched its 'Amazon Now' 30-minute delivery in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Seattle, charging Prime members $3.99 and non-members $13.99 per order. Expansions to Austin, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, Denver and Oklahoma City will intensify competition for DoorDash in the ultra-fast delivery market.

1. Rollout in Four Major Markets

Amazon began its 30-minute 'Amazon Now' service in April, covering Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Seattle. Each market sees dedicated fulfillment hubs designed to process orders and dispatch couriers within minutes of purchase.

2. Pricing Structure and Fees

Prime subscribers pay a $3.99 delivery fee per order, while non-Prime customers incur a $13.99 fee. This tiered pricing reflects Amazon’s strategy to leverage its membership base while covering the high costs of ultra-fast delivery.

3. Planned Expansion to Seven Additional Cities

By summer, Amazon will add Austin, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, Denver and Oklahoma City to its rapid-delivery network. These additions raise the service’s footprint from four to eleven metropolitan areas.

4. Competitive Impact on DoorDash

The roll-out directly challenges DoorDash’s on-demand model by offering guaranteed half-hour delivery for groceries and household essentials. DoorDash may need to adjust its pricing or delivery guarantees to retain market share in these overlapping cities.
