Amazon Hits 396-Satellite Milestone, Sets Amazon Leo Broadband Launch This Year
AMZN•Amazon’s low Earth orbit constellation grew by 29 satellites to 396 following its final Atlas V flight, meeting its deployment target. The company aims to begin rolling out its Amazon Leo broadband service this year to compete with other satellite internet providers.
1. Satellite Constellation Milestone
In its most recent mission, Amazon added 29 satellites—bringing its total in low Earth orbit to 396—fulfilling the firm’s self-imposed deployment threshold. This launch marked the final use of United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket under Amazon’s current contract, paving the way for alternative launch vehicles in future missions.
2. Amazon Leo Service Rollout Plans
With its constellation now fully established, Amazon plans to begin rolling out its Amazon Leo broadband service before year-end. The service will leverage the expanded network to deliver direct-to-consumer internet connectivity and position Amazon as a competitor to existing satellite internet operators.
