Amazon Joins $500K–$5M Clean-Tech Fund to Back Data Center Startups
AMZN•Elemental Impact launched the Data Center Innovation Initiative with Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft to fund clean-energy and low-carbon materials startups with $500,000 to $5 million per project, aiming for 10 projects by end-2027. Partners will advise on technology focus and enable testing in operating or demonstration data centers.

Elemental Impact has initiated the Data Center Innovation Initiative in partnership with Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft, aiming to accelerate clean-energy and low-carbon materials technologies in data center environments.
2. Funding Details and Target Areas
The fund will allocate between $500,000 and $5 million to each startup, with a goal of supporting up to 10 projects by the end of 2027. Target areas include energy storage, advanced electrical systems, industrial cooling and sustainable construction materials.
3. Partner Roles and Deployment
Participating tech companies will advise on priority technology areas, support deal evaluation and facilitate real-world deployment opportunities. Selected solutions will be tested in operating data centers or dedicated demonstration facilities to validate performance and scalability.
4. Industry Context and Future Plans
Data center power demand share more than doubled between 2018 and 2023, projecting wholesale electricity prices could rise 6% to 29% by decade’s end. Results and best practices will be publicly shared to encourage broader clean-tech adoption across the industry.
