DTE Energy to Invest $1.6 Billion in 1.5GW Michigan Battery Storage Deployment
DTE•DTE Energy is investing $1.6 billion with LG Energy Solution Vertech to deploy eight Michigan-made battery storage systems delivering 1.5 GW/6 GWh capacity. The agreement is projected to generate $2.3 billion in economic impact and create over 2,150 jobs, while bolstering grid reliability and supporting clean energy standards.
1. Partnership and Deployment Plans
DTE Energy has signed a $1.6 billion procurement agreement with LG Energy Solution Vertech to develop and install eight Michigan-manufactured battery storage systems over two years, marking a strategic expansion of its clean energy infrastructure.
2. Capacity and Grid Reliability Benefits
The projects will deliver a combined 1.5 gigawatts (6 GWh) of storage capacity, enabling DTE Energy to store excess generation and dispatch power during peak demand, thereby reducing strain on generation assets and enhancing overall grid reliability.
3. Economic Impact and Job Creation
This deployment is expected to generate $2.3 billion in total economic impact, sustain 1,800 manufacturing jobs at LG’s Holland facility, support more than 350 construction and operations roles, and bolster local economies across Michigan.
4. Support for Clean Energy Standards
The battery systems will help DTE Energy meet Michigan’s renewable and clean energy standards and support new data center customers without compromising existing service levels, reinforcing the company’s commitment to clean energy targets.
