Amazon Launches 10-Month, 15-Bike E-Cargo Test in Washington, D.C.
AMZN•Amazon began a 10-month pilot deploying up to 15 four-wheeled e-cargo bikes in Washington, D.C., for package deliveries from a new Southwest microhub. Independent delivery partners will test battery-powered bikes designed with covered seating, a windshield and wipers to support urban logistics and lower transport emissions.

Amazon launched its second U.S. pilot for electric cargo bikes in Washington, D.C., deploying a fleet of up to 15 four-wheeled e-cargo bikes over 10 months from a new Southwest microhub.
2. E-Bike Features and Delivery Partners
Each battery-powered bike includes covered seating, a windshield and wipers, and will be operated by independent delivery partners to assess performance in dense urban environments.
3. Sustainability and Logistics Impact
The pilot aims to reduce transportation emissions, ease congestion by using bike lanes and loading zones, and complements Amazon’s existing micromobility network which delivered 170 million packages via such modes in 2024.
