IBM unveils $10B quantum plan and $5B open-source security initiative

IBM has unveiled a plan to invest $10 billion over the next four years in research and development of a large-scale quantum computer, targeting operational readiness by 2029. The initiative will focus on scaling quantum hardware and software capabilities to deliver commercially viable quantum systems.
2. $5B Project Lightwell Open-Source Security Initiative
IBM and its hybrid cloud unit Red Hat have committed $5 billion to Project Lightwell, which will deploy engineers and AI tools to secure open-source software across its full lifecycle. The initiative, piloted by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Visa, will launch as a commercial subscription clearinghouse within 30 days, offering vetted security patches and risk management tools.
