Amazon Eyes External Sales of Trainium AI Chips with 30% Price-Performance Edge
AMZN•Amazon is in talks to sell its Trainium AI chips externally, claiming 30% better price-performance than Nvidia while Nvidia retains leadership via CUDA. UK grocer Asda will integrate Amazon Retail Ad Service across its online grocery and George fashion sites starting in Q4, expanding Amazon’s ad revenue and ML targeting.
1. Talks to Sell Trainium AI Chips Externally
Amazon has begun discussions to offer its Trainium AI accelerators to third-party customers, positioning the chips as delivering roughly 30% better price-performance compared to Nvidia’s offerings. While this move could open a new revenue stream outside of AWS, Nvidia’s entrenched CUDA ecosystem remains a significant barrier to market share gains.
2. Asda to Integrate Amazon Retail Ad Service
UK supermarket chain Asda will roll out Amazon Retail Ad Service across its online grocery platform and its George fashion and home label starting in Q4 this year. The service leverages machine learning and shopping behavior data to deliver targeted ads, provide unified campaign management across Asda and Amazon inventory, and enhance measurement and audience insights for advertisers.
