MDA Space Wins $688M Contract for Next-Gen SAR Satellite
MDA•MDA Space secured a $688M contract from the Canadian Space Agency to build and commission a next-generation SAR satellite and upgrade ground systems. The CHORUS-based satellite, in final integration, is expected to launch late this year and will be added to MDA’s fiscal 2026 backlog.

MDA Space has been awarded a $688 million contract by the Canadian Space Agency to design, build, test, launch and commission a next-generation synthetic aperture radar satellite and to upgrade related ground control, security and data management systems.
2. Satellite Technology and Capabilities
The new SAR satellite is based on MDA’s fourth-generation CHORUS platform, offering day-night, all-weather broad surveillance area data for maritime safety, Arctic monitoring, disaster response and environmental observation, and is now in its final integration phase.
3. Impact on Backlog and Timeline
The contract will be recorded in MDA’s fiscal 2026 second-quarter backlog, boosting revenue visibility and building on the company’s successful 2019 RADARSAT Constellation Mission replenishment.
