Amazon Surpasses 390 Satellites to Launch Amazon Leo Broadband Service
AMZN•Amazon has deployed over 390 satellites after United Launch Alliance launched 29 more, meeting its target to initiate its Amazon Leo broadband service this year. This fleet scale-up positions Amazon to challenge existing LEO internet providers and could open a new revenue stream beyond its core e-commerce and cloud operations.
1. Satellite Deployment Milestone
Amazon’s low Earth orbit constellation exceeded 390 satellites with the addition of 29 spacecraft delivered by a United Launch Alliance rocket. This milestone fulfills the company’s in-orbit threshold for initiating its broadband offering and highlights the rapid pace of its network build-out.
2. Amazon Leo Rollout Plans
With its deployment target achieved, Amazon is set to commence the commercial rollout of Amazon Leo before year-end, aiming to deliver low-latency internet services globally. The service launch could diversify Amazon’s revenue mix by tapping into the growing satellite broadband market.
3. Launch Provider Partnership
The latest mission underscores Amazon’s reliance on United Launch Alliance for its initial constellation deployments. Success with ULA paves the way for future agreements with additional launch providers to expand and maintain the network’s capacity.
