AMD Doubles AI Capacity to 50 MW with Riot, Prepares MI400 Ramp
AMD expanded its data center footprint with Riot Platforms by adding 25 MW, doubling its leased AI capacity to 50 MW and delivering the first 5 MW in Q1. The company targets H2 2026 ramp of Instinct MI400 and Helios accelerators while fending off renewed x86 competition from Intel’s Xeon lineup.
1. Expanded Data Center Deployment with Riot Platforms
In Q1, AMD exercised an option to increase its contracted critical IT capacity with Riot Platforms by 25 MW, doubling its footprint to 50 MW. The first 5 MW delivery marks the initial phase of this AI-focused deployment, positioning AMD for broader enterprise use.
2. Upcoming Instinct MI400 and Helios Ramp Strategy
AMD plans to commence full-scale production and shipment of its Instinct MI400 Series accelerators alongside Helios GPUs in the second half of 2026. These new products aim to strengthen AMD’s competitive position in data center AI infrastructure and drive revenue growth in the high-margin accelerator segment.
3. Competitive Landscape with Intel Xeon Return
Intel’s refreshed Xeon lineup is gaining traction in AI server deployments, intensifying x86 competition. AMD will need to demonstrate clear performance and efficiency advantages in benchmarks to preserve and expand market share against its long-time rival.
