American Airlines said on Tuesday it will launch free in-flight Wi-Fi for AAdvantage loyalty members through an AT&T partnership. The carrier added 17 extra Eastern Caribbean flights and will deploy two Boeing 777-300s (304 seats) for San Juan-Miami roundtrips on Monday while waiving change fees for rebookings.

1. Free In-Flight Wi-Fi for Loyalty Members

American Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will roll out complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi service for all members of its AAdvantage loyalty program. The carrier has partnered with AT&T to equip its mainline domestic fleet, including Boeing 737 and Airbus A321 aircraft, with high-speed satellite connectivity. The initial phase covers 200 planes by mid-year, with plans to extend the service to its entire narrow-body fleet by the end of 2026. AAdvantage members will be able to access streaming, video conferencing and web browsing at no additional charge, a benefit that the airline expects to drive program enrollment and higher ancillary revenue from premium cabin upgrades and onboard purchases.

2. Surge Capacity in the Eastern Caribbean

In response to the recent FAA airspace restrictions over the Eastern Caribbean, American Airlines deployed 17 additional flights over the New Year holiday weekend to alleviate stranded passengers. The extra services connected San Juan with Aruba, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Barbados and Dominica, as well as additional frequencies to Miami and Charlotte. To meet peak demand, the carrier will operate two Boeing 777-300 aircraft—its largest twin-aisle jets seating 304 passengers—on Monday roundtrips between San Juan and Miami. AAL also waived change fees and fare differentials for affected customers rebooking travel through January, covering more than a dozen regional airports under the travel waiver.
