American Water’s planned merger with Essential Utilities cleared a key U.S. antitrust waiting period that expired Aug. 14.
The deal timeline is unchanged; closing is still targeted by the end of the first quarter of 2027, subject to remaining regulatory clearances.
Regulatory approvals and shareholder votes
State utility regulators in Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia have signed off, and a settlement in principle has been reached in Texas.
Shareholders of both companies previously voted in favor of the transaction.
