Anfield Energy Secures ATF Blasting Permits for Utah and Colorado Mines
AEC•Anfield Energy has received ATF blasting permits for its Utah Velvet-Wood and Colorado JD-8 mines, enabling drilling and blasting to access new uranium-vanadium mineralization. The company plans to begin underground mining later this year and aims to restart Velvet-Wood production by the end of 2026.
1. ATF Blasting Permits Approved
On July 7, 2026, Anfield Energy secured ATF blasting permits from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for its Velvet-Wood project in Utah and JD-8 mine in Colorado. This regulatory approval allows initiation of drilling and blasting to access previously unreachable uranium-vanadium mineralization.
2. Transition to Underground Mining
The Velvet-Wood project will employ conventional room-and-pillar underground mining to extract mineralized sandstone deposits, with drilling and blasting set to begin within weeks. The company expects to transition from development to active underground operations and plans to restart production by year-end 2026.
3. Strategic Growth and Production Plans
These permits are a key component of Anfield’s hub-and-spoke strategy, leveraging its fully permitted Shootaring Canyon Mill alongside high-quality assets. Advancing underground operations in a district with historical output of 78 million pounds of U3O8 supports the company’s growth targets and enhances its role in domestic energy security.
