Anthropic IPO stands alone as AI market jitters sideline others
SPY•Anthropic is pressing ahead with a planned IPO in the middle of next month, with marketing expected to begin the week of November 9, while other AI and data center companies have delayed, paused or pulled offerings.
1. Anthropic plans IPO
Anthropic is pressing ahead with its planned initial public offering in the middle of next month and could make its prospectus public as early as late October, people familiar with the matter said. The plan and dates are subject to change, and the company is expected to begin marketing shares during the week of November 9.
2. Other listings delayed
A potential valuation of $1.5 trillion is being considered by some investors. Companies including Switch and Nscale have pushed IPO plans back, while SB Energy postponed its listing and AirTrunk REIT and Firmus have pulled or paused offerings. Rising interest rates and market volatility have made it harder for companies to secure attractive valuations.
3. Investors weigh demand
The retreat reflects scrutiny of the capital required to build data centers and whether future demand will justify the investment. Oura's recent IPO attracted little participation from long-only investors, a person familiar with the matter said, raising concerns about institutional demand. Anthropic declined to comment.
