AAPLAAPL

Apple will let users select third-party AI models for text and image generation in iOS27, iPadOS27 and macOS27, adding Extensions in Settings and an App Store section for AI apps. It is testing integrations with Alphabet and Anthropic while revamping Siri with new voices and camera AI tools.

1. Platform Expansion

Apple will introduce Extensions in iOS27, iPadOS27 and macOS27 this fall, enabling users to select from multiple third-party AI models for tasks like text and image generation. The feature is accessible via the Settings app, with a new App Store section highlighting compatible AI apps.

2. Partner Integrations

Internal tests include integrations with Alphabet and Anthropic, moving beyond the current ChatGPT-only slot in Apple Intelligence. Apple is also collaborating with Google to revamp Siri’s underlying models and has partnered with Anthropic to bolster its internal AI infrastructure.

3. Ecosystem Impact

This open platform strategy could create new revenue streams from platform fees and App Store sales, benefiting partners while reducing OpenAI’s exclusivity on over 2 billion devices. It also paves the way for enhanced Siri features such as multiple voices, a standalone app, AI camera editing tools and custom Wallet passes.
