Apple Tests QR Code Pass Creator with Three Templates in iOS 27 Wallet
Apple is testing a Create a Pass feature in iOS 27 that lets users scan QR codes to generate customized Wallet passes using three templates: standard orange, blue membership and purple event. The tool, appearing under the Wallet’s + button, could strengthen the iPhone ecosystem and rival Google Wallet’s features.
1. Feature Overview
The Create a Pass tool in iOS 27 allows iPhone users to convert any QR code—such as gym memberships, concert tickets or retailer gift cards—into a digital Wallet pass. Accessible via the Wallet app’s + button or the credit card addition screen, the feature fills a gap for services that have not built native Apple Wallet support.
2. Templates and Customization
Apple is testing three distinct pass templates: a standard orange layout for general use, a blue membership design for venues like gyms, and a purple event ticket style for movies and games. Users can personalize each pass with images, colors and text fields or capture QR codes with the iPhone camera to auto-populate key details.
3. Ecosystem and Timeline
The feature is currently in beta ahead of its expected unveiling at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. By deepening Wallet’s functionality and matching Google Wallet’s QR pass creation, Apple aims to boost daily utility of the iPhone and reinforce user retention within its software ecosystem.
