Apple to Integrate Google’s Gemini AI into Siri Chatbot on iPhone, iPad and Mac
Apple will integrate Google’s Gemini AI into Siri this year, transforming it into a chatbot across iPhone, iPad and Mac and embedding it in Mail, Music and Photos with voice or side-button activation. It will use a Google-provided AI model and follow an interim Siri update.
1. Apple’s AI Wearable Takes Shape
According to a report published Wednesday by The Information, Apple is developing an AI wearable in the form of a thin, flat, circular pin designed to be worn on clothing. Engineers envision an aluminum-and-glass shell roughly the size of an AirTag and slightly thicker. The device will include two cameras (standard and wide-angle lenses), three microphones, a physical button, a speaker and a Fitbit-style charging strip on its back. Apple is said to be accelerating development to rival an OpenAI hardware launch expected in H2 2026, with plans for a potential 2027 release involving an initial production run of 20 million units.
2. Siri to Become AI Chatbot Powered by Google’s Gemini
Bloomberg reports Apple intends to transform Siri into a contextual AI chatbot later this year, integrating it across iPhone, iPad and Mac operating systems. The new Siri will be activated by voice or by holding the side button and will be embedded in core apps such as Mail, Music and Photos. Powered by Google’s Gemini model and running on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure, the assistant will gain the ability to search the web, generate text and images, and analyze user-uploaded files, all while adhering to Apple’s privacy standards. An interim Siri update is expected prior to the chatbot launch.
3. Apple Pay Eyes India Rollout
Sources cited by Moneycontrol indicate Apple is negotiating commercial agreements with Mastercard and Visa and seeking regulatory approvals to introduce Apple Pay in India this year. The planned rollout will occur in phases: initially supporting card-based contactless payments, followed by potential integration with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) under a separate regulatory framework. Apple currently operates its payment service in 89 markets and is discussing fee structures with card issuers. Industry data show weekly in-store mobile wallet usage more than doubled year-over-year, with Apple Pay’s transaction share rising from 8.9% to 10.2% and annual in-store sales growing to an estimated $450 billion from $268 billion.
