ArriVent's oral lung cancer therapy fails late-stage trial, shares plunge
AVBP•ArriVent said firmonertinib failed to meet the main goal of delaying disease progression in a late-stage trial, and shares fell 63% in premarket trading. Median progression-free survival was 11 months with the therapy versus 9.5 months with chemotherapy.
1. Trial misses main goal
The trial tested firmonertinib in previously untreated patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer and an EGFR exon 20 insertion mutation. Independent reviewers assessed median progression-free survival at 11 months with a 240-milligram dose, compared with 9.5 months with chemotherapy.
2. Company reviews results
CEO Bing Yao said the improvement in progression-free survival was not meaningful and called the results disappointing for patients who urgently need more effective treatment options. ArriVent is evaluating the full dataset to determine the therapy's development path. The company said no new safety signals were identified; firmonertinib is approved in China for NSCLC patients with certain mutations.
