Arrowhead climbs on early Alzheimer's drug trial data
ARWR•Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals said its experimental Alzheimer's drug ARO-MAPT cut tau protein levels in spinal fluid by an average of 73%, with maximum reductions of 85%, in an early-to-mid-stage trial of healthy volunteers. The reductions lasted at least three months after the final dose, and the company expects data updates from trials in early Alzheimer's patients in 2027.
1. Trial results
Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals said ARO-MAPT reduced disease-linked tau protein in spinal fluid by an average of 73% in healthy volunteers, with maximum reductions of 85%, in an early-to-mid-stage trial. The reductions lasted at least three months after the final dose, supporting the potential for quarterly dosing, the company said.
2. Next data expected
Arrowhead is testing ARO-MAPT in people with early Alzheimer's, with data updates expected in 2027. Abnormal tau buildups are considered a key driver of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative brain disorders.
