SINGAPORE, Aug. 3 (Reuters) - Asia's spot premium for very low sulphur fuel oil rose further to more than a four-month high in its latest rally, despite upstream crude markets retreating. The product traded at spot premiums near mid-$50s per metric ton for prompt loading dates in the second-half of August, based on data from trade sources. Market strength persisted despite upstream oil prices slumping on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump held off a fresh attack on Iran. Prompt VLSFO supplies are likely to stay tight, some traders said. Meanwhile, high sulphur fuel oil was steady to firmer, with spot premiums inching higher to above $15 per ton. Hi-5 spreads remained wide amid the stronger VLSFO complex. The August contract FO05-380SGMc0 closed the session at above $198 a ton, LSEG data showed, while the September contract FO05-380SGMc1 closed above $153 a ton.
