AST SpaceMobile Shares Jump 14% Friday, 21% Weekly on LEO Network Optimism
AST SpaceMobile shares surged 14% on Friday and climbed over 21% during the past week as investors respond to developments in its low-Earth-orbit satellite broadband network for smartphones. The gains reflect growing optimism around the company’s LEO constellation rollout and potential service partnerships.
1. Recent Financial Performance and Stock Rally
Over the past 12 months, AST SpaceMobile has delivered a roughly 300% gain in its share value despite remaining unprofitable. In the third quarter of 2025, the company reported operating expenses of $94.415 million, up from $66.646 million in the same period of 2024. Net loss attributable to common stockholders narrowed to $122.874 million in Q3 2025 from $171.946 million a year earlier. This combination of expanding investment and improving loss metrics has underpinned extreme day-to-day volatility, including double-digit swings, reflecting both speculative enthusiasm and investor caution.
2. Technological Milestones and Satellite Deployment Plans
AST SpaceMobile’s flagship BlueBird satellite program achieved a major milestone on December 24, 2025 with the successful launch of BlueBird 6, featuring the largest commercial communications array ever deployed in low Earth orbit. The nearly 2,400-square-foot antenna supports peak data speeds up to 120 Mbps for space-based voice, data and streaming services directly to standard smartphones. The company has secured partnerships with more than 50 mobile network operators globally and plans to launch 45 to 60 additional satellites by year-end, targeting an average cadence of one orbital mission every one to two months.
3. Analyst Rating Adjustment and Strategic Government Contract
Analysts at B. Riley recently adjusted their view on AST SpaceMobile, downgrading the rating from Buy to Neutral and reducing their target by about 10%. Shortly thereafter, the company announced it had been awarded a position on the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s SHIELD program, an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract that enables competition for future task orders supporting critical defense systems. While the contract’s value remains unspecified, securing a foothold in government procurement reinforces AST SpaceMobile’s credibility and highlights potential revenue streams beyond commercial telecom partnerships.
