2. Google’s Large-Scale Procurement Deals
Major technology companies, led by Google and Meta, finalized agreements to secure tens of thousands of megawatt-hours of energy storage this year. These deals aim to supply backup power for data centers supporting artificial intelligence workloads.

Texas, Arizona and California accounted for over 70% of utility-scale storage installs in Q1, contributing 7.8 GWh of the total. Commercial and industrial systems added 648 MWh, while residential installations contributed 515 MWh.
