1. Mid-Stage Obesity Pill Trial Delivers 10.5% Reduction
AstraZeneca reported that its experimental obesity pill induced an average 10.5% body weight reduction over 26 weeks in a mid-stage trial. The result positions the therapy as a challenger in the weight-loss market against established injectable GLP-1 treatments, broadening the company’s growth prospects.
2. Dapagliflozin Trails Oral GLP-1 Competitor
In parallel diabetes studies, AstraZeneca’s dapagliflozin achieved up to 0.8 percentage point HbA1c reduction and 3.0% weight loss, compared with 1.7 points and 7.3% respectively for Lilly’s Foundayo. This efficacy gap may pressure dapagliflozin’s competitive standing as oral GLP-1 options gain traction.
