Aurora Innovation Targets 200 Driverless Trucks, Q2 Hardware Rollout and $80M Run Rate

AURAUR

Aurora Innovation's CEO Chris Urmson expects a fleet of 'a couple hundred' driverless trucks by end-2026 with an $80M run rate, up from only 'a handful' today. The rollout includes second-generation hardware on International truck platforms in Q2 and a third-gen manufacturing partnership with Imovio backed by a $350M investment.

1. Deployment and Revenue Projections

CEO Chris Urmson projects Aurora will operate 'a couple hundred' driverless trucks by the end of 2026, up from a handful today, with these vehicles supporting an $80M annualized run rate driven by miles and utilization.

2. Second-Generation Hardware Rollout

Aurora plans to launch its second-generation hardware in Q2 on a new International truck platform, with Fabrinet tooling capable of producing up to 1,500 units designed to halve component costs and triple system durability.

3. Capital-Light Third-Generation Partnership

The third-generation system will be produced through a capital-light manufacturing agreement with Imovio, which is investing roughly $350M and financing hardware based on utilization, enabling Aurora to avoid upfront capital expenditures.

4. Operational and Weather Capabilities

After expanding from daylight-only tests to day/night operations across multiple routes, Aurora has enhanced its ability to operate in rain and higher winds, addressing the prior 40% weather-related downtime experienced in Texas.
