EPFD work supports GE Aerospace hybrid-electric flight demonstrator
GE Avio highlighted its engineering results supporting GE Aerospace’s NASA EPFD hybrid-electric flight demonstrator shown at the Farnborough Airshow.
Key development output was a combining gearbox that merges turbine power with an electric machine in a compact, flight-suitable package.
Work also produced an integrated lubrication and cooling system to manage heat loads for the gearbox and electric machine under tight nacelle constraints.
The program advanced engine dynamics assessment for hybrid-electric operating loads, supporting propulsion mounting layout optimization for safe, reliable integration.
Software development included fault data and mitigation controller application code designed for multiple test configurations, verified for a flightworthy release.
