AWS Growth Slows to 4% While Amazon Teams with Vanguard on Voice Voting
AWS revenue growth decelerated to 4% in Q1, far below Google Cloud’s 63% expansion, highlighting a loss of momentum in Amazon’s fastest-growing segment. Amazon has also launched a Vanguard integration on Alexa, enabling voice-activated proxy voting for over $3 trillion in index fund assets.
1. AWS Growth Performance
In the March quarter, AWS revenue growth rose by just 4% from the prior period, contrasting sharply with Google Cloud’s acceleration from 48% to 63% year-over-year. This slowdown may reflect heightened competition in AI infrastructure spend and could pressure Amazon’s overall margin profile given AWS accounts for a substantial share of operating profits.
2. Vanguard Partnership for Proxy Voting
Amazon has integrated Vanguard’s investor choice proxy-voting program into Alexa, allowing investors managing over $3 trillion in index fund assets to request voting links or policy details by voice. The collaboration aims to reduce friction in proxy participation and extend Alexa’s reach into financial services, potentially opening new engagement channels and monetization opportunities.
