Alibaba's Qwen platform processed 120 million orders over six days after launching a 3 billion yuan ($431 million) promotional campaign, capturing significant consumer AI commerce adoption. Baidu has joined the red packet incentive war offering its own AI app discounts, intensifying competition for China’s AI-driven shopping market.

1. Alibaba Qwen Order Surge

Within six days of launching its Lunar New Year campaign on February 6, Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen platform processed a record 120 million orders as it distributed 3 billion yuan in user incentives. Nearly half of those orders came from counties and hinterland regions, and 1.56 million people aged 60 and above made their first online purchases through Qwen.

2. Baidu Joins AI Incentive Race

In response to Alibaba’s push, Baidu has rolled out its own ‘red packet’ promotions to draw users to its AI-powered shopping app during the Spring Festival. The move underscores intensifying competition among China’s tech giants to establish AI commerce apps as everyday consumer channels.
