Barrick Mining reached an agreement with unions representing workers at its Loulo-Gounkoto gold mine in western Mali, Bloomberg News reported, citing Abdoulaye Coulibaly of Mali's National Workers' Union. Coulibaly said the strike threat had been resolved and that the agreement involved workers at Food & Events Africa, Somilo SA and Gounkoto SA. Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
2. Earlier union demands
Earlier in September, unions representing Barrick's gold workers said they would strike toward the end of the month if demands related to overtime pay, reimbursement of mission expenses and labor agreements were not met. Separate strike notices were submitted by Food & Events Africa staff and workers in Mali's mining regulator and other mining administration agencies.
