BBVA H1 FY26 net attributable profit climbs 11.1% to €6.05 billion

BBVA posted 1H26 net attributable profit of €6.05 billion, up 11.1% year-on-year; 2Q26 net attributable profit rose 2.4% quarter-on-quarter to €3.06 billion.
Net interest income climbed 20.3% year-on-year to €15.16 billion; gross income increased 17.3% to €21.16 billion.
AI push and share buyback
BBVA reaffirmed its AI push with a new AI Transformation unit; it also launched a new €2 billion share buyback framework program.
Profitability, costs and capital
ROTE was 22.2% and the efficiency ratio was 37.8%; operating expenses rose 17.9% to €8 billion.
CET1 ratio eased to 12.9% from 13.34% a year earlier; NPL ratio improved to 2.6% from 2.9%.
