Benchmark says quantum computing commercialization speeds up
IONQ•Benchmark says commercialization is accelerating
Benchmark says near-term quantum-computing commercialization is strong and accelerating; however, the dream of a "fault-tolerant" machine that solves every problem is still years away.
The brokerage reinstated coverage on IonQ, D-Wave Quantum and Rigetti Computing with a "buy" rating.
Shares rise after coverage reinstatement and industry outlook
RGTI shares rose 8.4% to $15.35; QBTS jumped 14.3% to $18.53 and IONQ gained 8.2% to $35.52.
The U.S. government is stepping up as a direct investor, with a $2 billion CHIPS Act allocation into the "quantum computing ecosystem," with IBM alone expected to receive about $1 billion.
Rigetti says it would partner with HPE and Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to build "TangleLab," a hybrid quantum-classical supercomputing testbed designed to support research and education in quantum information science.
The quantum computing industry may go through a wave of consolidation, the brokerage said.
