EXC•BGE urged Maryland regulators to preserve its natural gas system, serving more than 700,000 customers, warning rapid electrification could drive billions of dollars in incremental electric rate increases. The company said converting a gas home to electric in Baltimore could cost more than $25,000 and cited growth of more than 8,000 gas customers since 2023.

BGE urged Maryland regulators to preserve the natural gas system serving more than 700,000 customers, warning that rapid electrification could drive billions of dollars in incremental electric rate increases compared with projected gas investments. It said full conversion of a gas home to electric in Baltimore could cost more than $25,000, and cited growth of more than 8,000 gas customers since 2023.
2. Regulatory hearings scheduled
BGE’s testimony is part of the Maryland Public Service Commission’s “Future of Gas” case. Evidentiary hearings are scheduled for Oct. 5-9.
